Malshi holding her textured floral painting Petals of Joy

About the artist

Meet Malshi

Malshi is a Sri Lankan artist working from her studio in Piliyandala, just outside Colombo. Under the name Texture Tales she creates textured floral paintings and mixed-media abstracts, sculpted in acrylic and texture paste so that every petal and layer rises off the canvas.

Her work sits between the joyful and the calm: gardens of sunflowers, daisies and blossoms in bright, vibrant colour, and quieter pieces in soft, earthy neutrals made for restful rooms. Much of it leaves the studio as a commission, shaped in close conversation with the person who will live with it.

Pieces travel across Sri Lanka and abroad, to homes, hotels and offices. If you have a wall in mind, she would love to hear about it.

How the work is made

Texture art is slow work. This is what goes into every piece.

01

Sculpted, not painted flat

Each flower is built up in texture paste with a palette knife, petal by petal, so it stands proud of the canvas and casts its own small shadow. The surface changes as the light moves through the day.

02

Materials that last

Gesso-primed canvas, high-quality acrylics and a protective varnish, finished with a pine wood frame. Made to be lived with for years, not just admired once.

03

One piece at a time

Every painting is an original. When a piece is sold it is not reproduced, and each one leaves the studio with a signed note and care guidance.
